Maggie & Jack’s Wedding

A Love Story Years in the Making

Maggie and Jack’s story isn’t your typical love-at-first-sight tale. These two met about 10 years ago while working at the same restaurant but kept things friendly for years before romance bloomed just over 4 years ago. Now sharing their lives with three rescue pets, this outdoorsy couple enjoys hiking, paddleboarding, and biking together.

When it came to their wedding, Maggie and Jack knew exactly what they wanted: “Our hope is that everyone just has fun. We want it to feel like a big party with all our friends and family,” they told me. While they included a few traditional elements like a first dance and speeches, they skipped others like the bouquet toss and parent dances.

Their vision was crystal clear: “Our wedding ceremony and reception will be held at Charbar. We are looking to keep it simple, but still beautiful and fun.” And that’s exactly what they created – a celebration that perfectly captured their relaxed, joyful relationship.

Why Charbar Makes a Perfect Calgary Wedding Venue

When looking for Calgary wedding photo locations, Charbar stands out as one of the most unique spots in the city. Located in the historic Simmons Building in the East Village, this restaurant offers:

  • Incredible industrial-chic architecture
  • Stunning views of the Bow River
  • Natural brick and wood elements that photograph beautifully
  • A rooftop patio with amazing city views
  • Warm, ambient lighting perfect for reception photos

It’s no wonder I’ve listed Charbar as one of my favorite wedding venues in Calgary. The combination of urban charm and riverfront views creates a perfect backdrop for wedding photography that feels both trendy and timeless.

Capturing Maggie & Jack’s Charbar Wedding

Getting Ready Moments

The day began with casual getting-ready photos that set the tone for their laid-back celebration. The large windows in a nearby hotel provided perfect natural light for these intimate moments.

The Ceremony

Their ceremony took place with the brick walls and wooden beams of Charbar creating a warm, intimate setting. The simple decor allowed their genuine emotions to be the real focal point of these photographs.

Couple Portraits

We took advantage of several spots around the East Village for their portraits:

  • The riverside pathways
  • The striking architecture of the Simmons Building
  • The modern St. Patrick’s Island bridge
  • Charbar’s rooftop with its city views

The Reception

As the sun set, Charbar transformed into the perfect party space they had hoped for. The photos captured friends and family laughing, dancing, and celebrating against the warm glow of the venue’s lighting.
